What Is a Prenup?
Also known as a premarital agreement, this document is a contract between two people who are about to get married. It outlines their respective financial circumstances and their future financial expectations, and it outlines how their property will be divided in the event of a future divorce.
During a divorce, the court will take the prenup into consideration when dividing property and assets. If the couple has been married for a certain period of time, then the prenup will be considered a "marital agreement" and will be given more weight by the court. If they have been married for at least ten years, then the prenup will be considered a "prenuptial agreement" and will be given even more weight by the court.
Do I Need a Prenup?
Prenuptial agreements are often necessary when a couple has significant assets and property. In Texas, there is no requirement that you have a prenup, but it can be very beneficial to do so if you have significant assets or property.
Guard Your Assets with a San Antonio Prenup
